Because everything in the body is connected, this dog is in pain just from walking. Everything in his body is out of alignment, starting with his paws. His paws are flattened, his weight is shifted back, and his paw pads cannot make proper contact with the ground. The nails dig into the nail beds with every step. He is at high risk of breaking or splitting nails, causing even more excruciating pain.

Most pets need to have their nails trimmed at least once or twice a month to maintain an appropriate length.
